Wedding Shuttle in Zurich: When Is It Really Worth It?

As soon as your venue lies outside the city or the celebration ends after midnight — which means almost always. The ZVV night network only runs on the nights from Friday to Saturday, from Saturday to Sunday, and before public holidays. Anyone marrying during the week has no public transport left once services stop for the night — and even at the weekend, night buses and night S-Bahn trains run primarily from Zurich HB, not from the lakeside restaurant in Uetikon.

Then there is safety: at night, one car in seven has a driver who has been drinking (BFU survey, 2023). Your shuttle chauffeur, by contrast, is subject as a professional driver to what is effectively an alcohol ban — the limit is 0.1 per mille instead of 0.5. Your guests raise their glasses, the professional drives.

And finally, hospitality: nobody has to play “driver of the evening”, nobody adds up taxi fares in the middle of the night. Everyone arrives together — and goes home together.

The comparison

Shuttle or Taxi — Which Is Cheaper for Wedding Guests?

For individual guests, a taxi seems the obvious answer. For a whole wedding party it almost never adds up:

 Wedding shuttleIndividual taxis
Capacity per vehicleup to 80 guestsmax. 4 people
Departuresplanned waves, one schedulespontaneous, waiting times at night
Night rateincluded in the quotenight surcharge per vehicle and journey
Coordinationone point of contact, chauffeur knows the day's scheduleevery guest organises it themselves

For comparison: a taxi holds a maximum of four people — for 40 guests that means ten vehicles which have to be ordered, coordinated, and paid for individually in the middle of the night. With the shuttle, those same return journeys are already included in the fixed evening quote — with up to 80 guests per vehicle and as many waves as needed. The more guests you have and the further away the venue, the more clearly the shuttle wins.

Prices

What Does a Wedding Shuttle in Zurich Cost?

We calculate transparently in time blocks — per hour or as a fixed quote for the whole evening, all prices including 8.1 % VAT:

  • Mercedes V-Class (up to 7 guests): CHF 120 per hour — ideal as a feeder service and for small groups
  • Minibus (8–20 guests): CHF 120 per hour — the classic choice for the guest shuttle
  • Coach (up to 50 guests): individual quote — the entire party in one vehicle
  • Double-decker (up to 80 guests): individual quote — for very large wedding parties

Or you choose the most flexible model for long celebrations — standby on site: the vehicle stays at your venue all evening, and your guests travel whenever they like. It is billed per hour started: CHF 120 — V-Class or minibus, the same rate day and night.

For evening and full-day assignments with several waves you receive a fixed quote within 24 hours — one price, no surprises. For context: Swiss providers charge roughly CHF 1'070 to 1'340 for full-day shuttle flat rates with a driver, depending on vehicle size (market research, 2026). Organisation

How to Organise the Guest Shuttle in Four Steps

  1. Fix the shuttle before the invitations. Then you can announce it in the invitation and ask about the ride via RSVP — so you know early how many seats you need.
  2. Plan waves instead of one single departure. A proven pattern: one outbound trip before the ceremony, return journeys at 23:00 and at 02:00 — open-ended on request. Older guests travel earlier, the dance floor stays full.
  3. Define the stops. Church, venue, two hotels, the station: we plan every stop and coordinate the times with your schedule.
  4. Appoint one contact person. A witness or wedding planner keeps in touch with the chauffeur — so the bride and groom do not have to coordinate any logistics on the big day.

Two days before the wedding, all shuttle guests receive the departure point and times — by email or WhatsApp, one sentence is enough. On request we collect international guests directly at the airport: our airport transfer in Zurich takes care of arrival times and flight monitoring.

Who pays for the shuttle? There is no fixed rule — usually the bride and groom cover it as part of their hospitality, just like food and drinks. Guests from further afield, on the other hand, mostly organise the journey to Zurich themselves.

After midnight

Return Journeys at 02:00 — Planned, Not Improvised

The night shuttle is the moment when the service really pays off. Return journeys in waves take your guests safely to their hotels or home — open-ended on request, until the last guest has left.

For that to work reliably, it takes more than a vehicle: professional chauffeurs are subject to the statutory driving and rest periods (ARV), which is why long wedding evenings are built into the duty roster from the very start. And should the worst happen, for weddings the rule is: replacement vehicle guaranteed. Our chauffeurs speak German, English, and Italian — that counts too when international guests are on board.

Are children coming along? In the minibus the child-seat requirement applies just as in a car (under 12 years old and under 150 cm); in the coach the normal seat belt is sufficient from the age of 4. Simply state the children in your enquiry — that way we plan the right vehicle, and you are welcome to bring your own child seats.

For the bride and groom themselves we recommend a separate vehicle: read everything about the bridal couple transfer under Rent a wedding car in Zurich.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a shuttle service for the wedding cost?
Transparent in time blocks: the V-Class (up to 7 guests) and the minibus (8–20 guests) drive for CHF 120 per hour, the coach (up to 50 guests) and the double-decker (up to 80 guests) with an individual quote — all prices including 8.1 % VAT. For whole evenings with waves of return journeys you receive a fixed quote within 24 hours, with a 5 % instant discount when you book online.
Who pays for the shuttle for the wedding guests?
There is no fixed rule. Usually the bride and groom cover the shuttle as part of their hospitality — like food and drinks. Guests from further afield mostly organise the journey to Zurich themselves.
How often should the shuttle run on the wedding evening?
Waves have proven themselves: one outbound trip before the ceremony and return journeys at 23:00 and at 02:00 — open-ended on request. Even more flexible is standby on site: the vehicle stays at the venue and your guests travel as needed — CHF 120 per hour started.
How do I inform my guests about the shuttle service?
Announce the shuttle in the invitation and ask about the ride via RSVP. Two days before the wedding, everyone travelling with us receives the departure point and times by email or WhatsApp.
How many people fit in a wedding shuttle?
The Mercedes V-Class carries up to 7 guests, a minibus 8 to 20, a coach up to 50 seats — and for very large parties a double-decker with up to 80. Alternatively we plan two vehicles or several round trips between church, venue, and hotels.
Can the guests get back at night without a shuttle?
Difficult: the ZVV night network only runs at the weekend and primarily from Zurich HB — for weddings during the week or venues in the countryside there is practically no public transport after midnight. That is exactly what the night shuttle is there for.
When should we book the wedding shuttle?
Enquiries are possible at any time — even at short notice. The most practical moment is before the invitations go to print: that way you can announce the shuttle and plan the seats from the replies. And the earlier you reserve, the more certain it is that the vehicle will be free on your date.
